APRS – Core Concept
Local Tactical Position Mapping
Single VHF radio channel using 1200 baud packet radio
Uniform national frequency (144.39 MHz)
10 min: map stations in line of sight
30 min: map stations 1 hop by digital repeater away
Notes:
The core original concept behind APRS is local position mapping. On a single VHF frequency, a local APRS network can accomodate about 50 stations in a local area, with each station transmitting its position once every 10 minutes.
